Overview
Just five minutes walk/wheel from Newcastle Central Station, the Indigo is a friendly, accessible hotel with excellent facilities for wheelchair users. The restaurant is excellent - vegetarians should not be put off by the fact that it's called a steakhouse - there are plenty of veggie and fish options on the varied and interesting menu.
Transport & Parking
We didn't drive. The hotel has parking to the rear of the building. Its central location means that trains, buses and the Tyne and Wear Metro can be accessed easily.
Access
The main entrance has steps. There is a wheelchair accessible automatic door on Fenkle Street (operated by a push button) and this gives access to the restaurant, the bar and reception.
Toilets
There is an accessible toilet adjacent to the restaurant, though we did not use it. The ensuite accessible loo and wet-room shower in our room were excellent - well-equipped with grab rails, a seat in the shower and an alarm, and spacious.
Staff
Very friendly and helpful.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
The accessible room which we stayed in was spacious and well-equipped, and clearly designed with wheelchair users in mind. Light switches and plug sockets are all at a height which meant that they are accessible by a wheelchair user.
