Overview

A delightful, small hotel in a former Seamen's Mission on Nyhavn (Copenhagen's canal waterfront). Currently there is some access and it was suitable for my mobility needs, but it is not step free. When I visited in August 2018 the hotel informed me of it's plans to increase its number of rooms and will temporarily close soon so they can refurbish the hotel, which will include better accessibility, so if you are considering booking please check with the hotel to see its new facilities.

Transport & Parking

There is very good accessible, step free public transport in Copenhagen. From the airport there is train and metro stations. By metro it is a 15 journey to Kongens Nytorv station. From there it was about a 5 minute walk to the hotel. There are also a number of buses that stop very close by. Buses and metro are regular and both have designated spaces for wheelchair users.

The hotel is in an old former seamen's mission, and next to a bridge. From the street to the reception on the first floor there are about 15 steps with a handrail on both sides. There is also a lift which serves all floors and goes down to street level. The entrance of which is in a courtyard. The lift has an inner and outer doors. The outer door has to be manually opened but the inner door opens automatically. On the 1st floor is the reception and this leads step free into a spacious breakfast room, with free standing tables and chairs. The bedrooms are on the upper floors accessible by stairs or lift. I had Room 122, which is a large, corner room and the only one with a small balcony, which is quite narrow with a table and two chairs. From the lift it was step free to the room and out to the balcony, however there was a step up to the bathroom. The bathroom had a walk in shower with curtain. There is no grab rails but I was able to hold onto the edge of the wall. I brought my non slip bath mat from home and put a towel down on the floor and this stopped the water running over the floor. There was a sink and toilet without grab rails.

Toilets

There was no accessible toilet in my room. However the toilet was my the edge of the wall and I was able to grab that to pull myself up. I don't know if the hotel has any communal toilets.

Staff

Staff are very friendly and helpful. Everyone speaks fluent English. They offered assistance with the lift, answered my questions about buses, etc and offered to assist me with the self service buffet.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

I loved staying here. The hotel has the perfect location. It's right on Nyhavn, but on the quieter side of the street so it overlooks the brightly coloured warehouses and the canal. The street is busy but the restaurants are located on the opposite side of the canal so it isn't noisy staying there. The bridge to get to the other side is directly outside of the hotel. On the first night when I visited it was pouring with rain and it was perfect that I just had to cross the road and I had the choice 20 - 30 cafes and restaurants on my door step. Nyhavn is charming and atmospheric and my room had a wonderful view. The boat tours start from Nyhavn. The 66 bus and the hop on hop off step free tourist buses stop outside the hotel. Copenhagen's historic city centre is very compact and most places can be reached in between 15 - 30 minutes walk. When I visited a self service continental buffet was included in the rates and there was a very good selection. The products were of an excellent quality and you can have Danish pastries in Denmark. They also keep the breakfast room open all day for free tea and coffee and they sell some drinks and snacks. The hotel also has the original seamen's chapel but it was closed and being renovated when I visited. I highly recommend visiting and would not hesitate to stay there again,
