Great place for a wheelchair break with family
Visit date:
This review is especially helpful for those who have or use the following: Wheelchair, Powerchair
Overview
We were delighted with the accommodation from arrival until departure, including the thoughtful provision of milk and a cake to refresh us after our drive down from Aberdeen. The accommodation is superb, combination of suitable adaptions for myself (quadriplegic C3/4 complete since spinal injury 2001) and retention of generous and comfortable facilities for the rest of the family. It provided the perfect base for visiting St Andrews and the south Fife coast.
Transport & Parking
There is ample parking space both in front of each house and in the additional visitor spaces behind the Paxton centre. We arrived in our WAV vehicle. The hillside would be a challenge for most paras to ascend, but a power chair would manage fine. Smooth paving leads to front door which is level access by design. Not sure where the nearest bus stop is, but the terrain would be a challenge for disabled without power chair.
Access
There is level access throughout the ground floor of the house. No lift, which would have been a bonus, as the upstairs bedroom has a fabulous sea view!
Toilets
Accessible loo on the ground floor along with wet room for showering. Bags of room, grab rails aplenty, and my wife had no problem showering me. The entire flat is beautifully clean on arrival.

Anything else you wish to tell us?
Would highly recommend this to all other wheelchair users. We used it as a base, visiting St Andrews a couple of times (notable the Italian deli between Market Street and South Street), exploring the south Fife coastline as far as Anstruther, and dining out (the award-winning fish and chip shop in Anstruther - worth the 40 minute queue, the Yak and Yeti Indian restaurant outside Leven, the Courtyard restaurant in Cupar, and the Grange outside St Andrews. Hopefully we will visit again in the future.
