Overview

SAT NAV. SL1 2NH. HOLIDAY INN, SLOUGH We have now arrived at the time to find your hotel, it’s towards the end of our first day on our delightful tour of the Chiltern hills and our Midsomer Murders tour, and we have offered you a choice of two very different types of hotel to think about. A good basic hotel HOLIDAY INN SLOUGH, very handy for visiting Windsor, or a top rated classy hotel CROWNE PLAZA at BEACONSFIELD, a little further away. IF YOU CAN AFFORD IT, USE CROWNE PLAZA, that’s one of our favourite hotels ( SEE OUR REVIEW FOR CROWNE PLAZA BEACONSFIELD) Holiday inn however is The Handy hotel when visiting Windsor, as just four miles away, with easy driving to reach the centre of Windsor. Driving to Holiday Inn was quite nice, scenic to start with before hitting Slough, but that was also a pleasant enough drive, Slough is nicer than we thought it would be, but as you are on the outskirts of London, there were traffic problems to face, a slow steady crawl to get to hotel. Holiday Inn is a large but attractive enough hotel (photo 1) with very easy disabled Parking (photo 2) and entrance is right across road (photo 3) with automatic sliding doors and on the level (photo 4). Inside, there’s a large open space with a simple reception desk, maned by friendly staff who were very helpful to us. (Photo 5). To get down to the Bar area, and a much needed drink, there is a long wooden ramp, passing the bar where we ordered (Photo 6) and we sat out of the way with room for wheelchair (photo 7) and enjoyed our chosen little pleasurable drink. The lounge area is tidy, clean, with comfortable seating areas (photo 8) and surprising us, our pizza arrived (photo 9) Thank goodness we only ordered one to share, with a few French fries. It was ok, so let’s leave it at that. Close to us where the toilets, with kick doors for my husband, ups, I meant push doors (photo 10) difficult on his own, with very basic facilities, no hand rail or pull cord (photo 11) but we had our own toilet in our disabled room we could use anyway. Struggling back up the ramp, and into reception area (photo 12) we found the lift (photo 13) which led to very pleasant and nicely decorated corridors for bedrooms (photo 14). However, no worries for us as our disabled bedroom was on the ground floor, room NINE. (photo 15) and we found a very pleasant room, quiet large with lots of room to move around and keep wheelchair out of the way. It had a decent sized bed as well (photo 16) very comfortable, and gave us a good nights sleep, well, that was once we got used to the noise of neighbours and passing guests, and i.m afraid to say, a very noisy snorer next door, the walls are paper thin, so be aware of this. The room had enough equipment to keep us happy, a decent sized table, tea making facilities, a small wardrobe good enough for an overnight stop, but you will struggle if staying longer (photo 17) but we were very pleased with the walk in shower room (photo 18) basic, but a decent size. Mind you, as with almost all hotels, it had its problems. The cold water tap trickled it’s water out, the plug let water out so you had to keep filling the basin the tap was a bit stiff, the chain to flush made a lot of noise but didn’t do its job properly, well so said my husband, but we coped quite well.

Transport & Parking

SAT NAV. SL1 2NH. Church street, Chalvey, Slough. We thought the drive to the hotel was interesting enough, after leaving Beaconsfield and open spaces, Slough itself was not a bad little area, and SAT NAV took us very easily to the hotel. It’s a high rise block (photo 1) but attractive in its own way. A modern hotel, with parking facilities, charged at £7.00 a night. Disabled parking is right outside the entrance (photo 2) with just two bays, but these are very small, and a large car will have to park like we had too, across both bays, but we gained permission to do so first by asking reception for permission.

Access

It’s on the level to get across car park and into the hotel, but to get to Bar and it’s lounge, for breakfast, lunch or evening there is a wooden ramp to get you down, but this is quite steep to get back up again on your own, tough going, so make sure you have your carer to help you.

Toilets

We used our rooms toilet, with review for this. There are of course normal public toilets but these are very basic, but clean and tidy.

Very good, certainly helpful, and willing to give you all the help you need.
