Overview
We were pleasantly surprised on how nice this budget hotel is, certainly worth considering staying here if in the area. OUR REVIEW Just off the main road overlooking the famous Derby racecourse, is the rather untidy driveway for the hotel (photo 1) but the driveway towards the hotel looked more promising (photo 2) with a nice view across the Epsom race course. We found about 6 disabled bays (3) and a short paved path leading to entrance (4) with an automatic sliding door, (5) on the level, to enter hotel. An attractive reception desk and a bar welcomed us, well, the staff member did, (6) and the hotel inside is so much better than outside, which is rather off putting. A pleasant restaurant (7) for all meals to be taken. The breakfast bar which looks appealing enough, and all very clean (8) The bar lounge area is a nice place to relax in (9) with a well stocked bar and very comfortable seats (10) Now there’s a wide open area leading to the lifts (11) where two lifts are waiting (12) but not all that wide, a large chair may struggle, but inside it’s perhaps big enough for wheelchair and carer (13) A corridor leads to bedrooms and a Frankie Dettori meeting room (14) On the upper level are the disabled toilets, (15) a bit small but it has grab rails at least, we did not see pull cord (16) but we had to leave wheelchair outside. The lift then took us down to ground level and to the bar (17) where we finished our drinks before heading outside to collect car for our onward journey (18) OUR FINAL THOUGHTS We both felt it wasn’t a bad little hotel, much nicer inside than outside. Ideal if you are going to the races. We would certainly stay here as it clean and comfortable, and the deco is pleasing to look at. We only had a hot chocolate while here, but enjoyed reviewing this budget hotel.
Transport & Parking
A big enough car park, with about 6 disabled bays, and very handy for the race course and views of the downs.
Access
With 6 bays available for disabled, and everything to see and do on the level, it was very nice. No steps for us to worry about as a lift is available to get us up to disabled toilet and into bedrooms, although the lift seemed narrow, and a large chair may struggle to get on. Plenty of seating areas for a light snack or drinks.
Toilets
A lift to take us up for toilets, which we felt were rather small, but very clean and well maintained, with grab handle, but we left wheelchair outside of toilet.
Staff
Only met the one chap, doing everything, as budget hotels seem to ask of them, but a good lad, and friendly and helpful. What more could we ask.
