Welcoming hotel with well-equipped wheelchair accessible rooms

Overview
Gets five stars despite the fact that the wheelchair entrance is quite a heavy door opening outwards - five stars because staff members rushed to open it. Once inside there’s easy ramped access to reception, the lifts, the atrium and the restaurant. The accessible room was spacious with a well-equipped bathroom. Breakfast was very good. The evening menu wasn’t for us but steak lovers will be well satisfied. The staff at reception and in the restaurant could not have been more helpful. The bed was quite high, but we travel with a patient turner and a folding footstool, so wheelchair girl got in and out OK.
Transport & Parking
The five stars are for the admirable Taxi Munckhof, booked through Accessible Travel Netherlands, so got us here from the ferry terminal at Ijmuiden. They use rear access minibuses with lifts and are highly reliable. Can’t comment on the parking - there is an underground car park right next to the hotel but we didn’t use it. The nearest tram stops and bus stops are a block away, but not all trams in Den Haag are wheelchair accessible, though buses are.
Access
It would be five stars if they had an automatic door at the wheelchair entrance, though staff were on hand and very helpful. The lifts are spacious, as are the corridors and the restaurant. The breakfast buffet serveries are wide enough to be navigated in a wheelchair though wheelchair users would not be able to reach everything. The restaurant staff were very helpful and would be quick to assist a solo wheelchair user.
Toilets
There’s a well-equipped and reasonably spacious wheelchair-accessible loo close to Reception. It is well-signed. Grab rails, loo paper in an accessible position, an approachable sink and alarm cord. The en-suite bathroom in our room was splendidly-equipped. Wet room shower with fold-down seat and grab rails either side, controls within reach & also a shelf for toiletries at a sensible level. The loo had grab rails on either side and there was room for side transfer, and the approachable basin had grab holes in it - see picture.
Staff
Excellent in every way - quick to respond to the needs of a wheelchair user and all fluent speakers of English.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
This is definitely not a budget hotel, but the location on a quiet street and with the restaurant overlooking a canal is very good. The main sights in the historic centre are only ten minutes wheel/walk away and there is a variety of restaurants within a few minutes wheel/walk, some of which are wheelchair accessible. We hope to come again as there is much more to see and do in the city than is possible in a short break and we would be very happy to stay at this hotel..
