Overview
A second visit to this hotel, although this is our first review for it. We found this to be a bit difficult to find on our first visit, so suggest you follow OUR directions, rather than sat NAV, as this got us lost and we drove round and round until we managed to find passer by to help us, so read section under parking and transport, although of course you must set sat NAV to get you near to hotel first of all. You will find a nice driveway when you arrive, which gives the hotel appeal, and then It’s a nice hotel, busy, but clean and well looked after. We stayed overnight on our first visit, but just popped in for coffee this last time. Sadly, we were not given permission to take photos around the inside areas of hotel, (we always ask permission first wherever we go) but we had kept notes from our first visit, so can offer you written advice anyway. Ordering drinks, and something to eat, took ages to arrive at our table, it’s a busy and popular hotel, so allow plenty of time if you are here just for a look over the hotel, and a drinks break, but both of us enjoyed our lunch break. As with most places you can always find a fault or two, but generally speaking, it’s not a bad place to visit or stay here. Our review starts at a nice, well signed gateway entrance (photo 1) then drive along through tree lined grassland towards the hotel (photo 2) with barriers ahead of you, which will automatically raise for you. DO REMEMBER TO REGISTER YOUR CAR number at reception. Three disabled bays await quite close to notes, (photo 3). A very nice level entry into hotel with automatic sliding doors (photo 4). You enter into a very spacious reception area, tiled floors, and a light airy feel, and welcoming (photo 5). DO NOT FORGET TO REGISTER YOUR CAR. A small sitting area by the desk with room to leave your chair. Ahead is the restaurant and bar lounges, with lots of comfortable seating. We enjoyed an evening meal and overnight stay on our first visit, and lunch break on our second visit. Passing the reception desk, you arrive at the disabled toilet, with a pull handle door, and grey coloured wall tiles and quarry tiles on the floor. You can get the chair in and turn around. Beyond this is a small lift, which we can only just get in, and getting off the lift, there are long corridors to face, in dark wood quite attractive decor. For our disabled room it was quite a long walk along the corridor. We only gave 3 stars for the standard of the room as it was quite basic. In the bathroom there was a low bath tub with a shower in it. The plumbing was very noisy in the basin, and you had to leave the tap on full to get any hot water, then the plug did not fit in the hole so you could not fill the basin. Only one towel was provided. Back in bedroom, the mirror on the wall was to high, so a lady on a wheelchair, who could not stand, would find it very difficult to see to do her hair. The Spa has a good pool, but it is a small gym with very few apparatus. Our final thoughts We thought it was a nice hotel, and we enjoyed both our visits, as it is wheelchair friendly. We would recommend eating here, the food was hot, good and well presented. We would recommend visiting this hotel for an overnight stay, or as a day trip visit.
Transport & Parking
After you enter the sat NAV details, DE74 2YZ, and you get close to hotel, FOLLOW HOTEL signs, mostly found on the road itself, it will only read HOTEL as they are not allowed to mention Hilton, so any sign for hotel is what you must follow. Just take your time as nearing islands and it’s easy to follow. If your sat NAV is like ours, old, it will take you goodness knows where, we got lost so easily, so please, FOLLOW HOTEL signs. Then it’s a Nice entry along a long drive, and quite an easy car park. There are just three disabled bays, very near to entrance.
Access
All on the level, and an easy hotel to move around in. There is a lift if needed, and you can see all the hotel has to offer.
Toilets
Easy to find as well signed, and although small, you could manage. It has grab rails and pull cord.
Staff
Ok, but to busy to offer much support
