Overview
Good disabled parking, access for wheelchairs on ground floor. Disabled loo. Staff were brilliant, Greg in particular.
Transport & Parking
Arrived in car, showed blue badge to car parking person, who directed us to park on hardstanding near the castle. The gravel was a bit loose, but not deep, so no problem for a manual wheelchair.
Access
Access to castle was via a ramp up to the main door, it was nice to go through the same door as everyone else. Flat route around the ground floor. Upper floor was accessed via stairs, but wheelchair users are directed into the main hall & provided with a file of photos that included photos of the upper rooms & the wider estate. It's a historic building with no lift, but I felt everything was done to make sure wheelchair users had a good experience. A special shout out to Greg, who was brilliant, he did not make assumptions, was polite & helpful.
Toilets
Only used one disabled loo, but I think more than one was available. Clean, grab rails, largish, but not a Changing Places loo.
Staff
Every member of staff we met was helpful, kind & made us feel welcome. It was a windy day & a cup of milk got blown over onto a jacket, the catering staff provided clothes to mop up. The parking staff were friendly & helpful. Greg in the castle was very good, kind, helpful & did not make assumptions about who he was talking to or their ability to climb stairs.
