Overview
The hotel is modern and wheelchair friendly with very helpful staff, it is, unfortunately at the top of a reasonably steep hill which might prove difficult for manual wheelchair users. The accessible room is of a good size and the shower room is ok. The actual shower is quite small with only one grab handle next to the shower controls directly opposite the fold down shower seat, which is too far away from the side wall to be able to lean against it for support. The tiles are of an uneven surface so removable grab-handles will not stick. Breakfast is included and is an excellent buffet arrangement. There is a bar (the back of reception) that serves food but no proper restaurant, which is not a problem as there are plenty of excellent, accessible, restaurants nearby, both at the top of the hill and down in the town centre. There is no hotel parking but blue badge holders can park on the road around the clock. There is an NCP car park at the bottom of the hill.
Transport & Parking
The hotel has no parking but blue badge holders can park on the street outside around the clock. For non-blue badge holders, there is an NCP car park at the bottom of the hill 100 yards.
Access
There is a ramp that runs down from the street and then double backs on itself to the front entrance to avoid the 6 or so steps. Inside the reception area has lots of chairs. There are two good sized lifts. As is often the case, the accessible room door has no user friendly opening mechanism so as a carer you have to push the door open with your back pulling the wheelcair with you.
Toilets
There is an accessible toilet on the reception floor which we did not use but would expect to match the high standard throughout.
Staff
Very helpful and polite staff, what more can you say?
Anything else you wish to tell us?
Poor shower seat positioning and lack of grab rails made showering more difficult from a carer's perspective but very good location otherwise.
