Overview
This was my second time staying at Hampton by Hilton Torquay and this time I stayed longer. I love it. I had Room 105 again so it was like visiting an old friend. This is my 2nd review for the hotel and you might want to read both as I have lots of photos from my first stay.
Transport & Parking
Torquay train station is over a mile away so I took a taxi to the hotel. There are several buses that go along the sea front but then it would be a walk up to The Terrace to check in, as you can only use the Harbour lift if you have a key fab which is issued on check in.
Access
The hotel has step free access. The main entrance is on The Terrace, which is slightly up hill. Leading to the entrance are a couple of steps down with handrails on both side and a permanent ramp. There are automatic door, the reception desk is at standing height. On this level is the breakfast room with plenty of free standing tables and chairs. One morning I managed to get a window table and the views across Torquay town where lovely. Breakfast is complementary and self-service. There is also a bar and some sofas. There is a lift from the foyer to the harbour exit. The door into the street is manual. My room was 105, it was the same one I had last year. It has a double bed, an emergency cord by the bed and a bedside table with a safe in the top draw and 2 other empty draws. There is an easy chair, desk (with built in fridge) and firm chair. The wardrobe is hidden away next to the bathroom. It has wardrobe space, iron and ironing board, hair dryer and a fold up suitcase stand. The bathroom has wheels in shower, 2 sinks at different heights, plenty of grab rails and an emergency cord. The room was clean, tidy and very well maintained.
Toilets
Sorry I forgot to check the public accessible toilet.
Staff
Staff are exceptional. Very friendly, welcoming and helpful. The receptionist completed a PEEP (Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan) with me when I arrived. One day when I dropped my glasses in the lift and I needed help to pick them up the receptionist came straight away. On the first morning I asked for help with carry my tray to my table and after that I received help every day.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
I love this hotel. It is now my go to hotel when I got to the Agatha Christie Festival every year and I will be back next year. It's accessible, comfortable, welcoming and a great location with a level walk to the harbour and sea front (there's not many places in beautiful but hilly Torquay where you can get that). Thank you Hampton by Hilton and I'll see you in 2024.
