Overview
Excellent modern level access has been provided to this imposing and beautiful building.
Transport & Parking
Can’t comment on this. We walked/wheeled the short distance from our hotel. The church is in an extensive pedestrianised zone. Vehicle access is possible but it wasn’t clear how this could be arranged.
Access
Access is level and via the church’s shop, which has good circulating space. The doors are wide and automatic. Once in the church itself you need to be aware that the floor consists of stone slabs which are somewhat uneven and quite hard going in places. There are some side chapels which are not wheelchair-accessible but a wheelchair visitor can see and enjoy most of the building’s features.
Toilets
There are conventional toilets but we did not see an accessible toilet. Dutch towns and cities are not well supplied with these, though some hotels, restaurants and department stores have them.
Staff
Friendly and helpful. In return for the €2.50 entrance fee (no concessions for wheelchair users) we were given a helpful leaflet in English which we used to guide ourselves round the building.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
There’s lots to see. Handel and Mozart once played the magnificent church organ. There is some beautiful modern stained glass and a chapel named after the dog whippers who in the old days cleared canine nuisances out of the building. IThe architecture is spacious and austere and the atmosphere is peaceful.
