Overview
This café on the old harbour front in Irvine has the best café menu I've seen in ages. Brilliant coffee and to die for food! Make sure you're hungry the portions are large.
Transport & Parking
The café is next to a huge car park with ample spaces off Beach Drive. We parked nearer on Harbour Street almost road side using an end bay next to a kerb, parking far enough away to allow me to transfer into my chair. I couldn't see any marked disabled bays outside the café. There is a dropped kerb outside the entrance. The train station is about 1/2 a mile away at the end of Harbour Street.
Access
The café is situated on a flat area of the town. There is no step into the café. There are a lot of tables but it was easy to get around. Sadly, and not a unique issue the tables has a central leg making it difficult for me to get my wheelchair into a position near to the table. I managed to sit a bit side ways on. This did not stop me from enjoying my visit, the table issue is one I encounter almost everywhere.
Toilets
The only let down to this place is its loos. The door to the corridor where the loos are is very heavy to push open and neigh on impossible to pull open upon leaving. The loo is small not helped by the fact that a baby changing table is also squeezed in making it impossible to get to the sink. I had to reverse out! Try not use the loo or take sanitising wipes for your hands.
Staff
We were welcomed very enthusiastically on arrival and immediately shown to a table, chairs moved etc. What a lovely bunch!
Anything else you wish to tell us?
I would recommend a visit here, the staff and food were top notch, the café is dog friendly and there is a huge expanse of harbour front and miles of beach with stunning views over to the island of Arran.
