Overview

Lovely café is dog friendly and has level access.

Transport & Parking

There is on street parking near the café however, this can sometimes get busy. Around Broughty Ferry there are also various car parks you can park in and blue badge holders can park for free. Broughty Ferry has a train station where trains stop from Dundee and Angus areas, they don’t stop very often though. Buses also pass through frequently too from Dundee and Angus areas, stopping at various bus stops.

Access

3.5

There is a slight slope to up to the entrance of Gracie’s but it is not steep and manageable. The door was opened when I visited so I able to easily get in but I didn’t see any touch pad to automatically open the door or a doorbell to ring to get staffs attention that you need help. The counter where you pay is quite high, I had someone with me to help me pay but other customers might have difficulties. Most tables are at a good hight for a wheelchair user but there is a few booths that aren’t accessible. There isn’t a lot of space between the tables though so if it’s really busy it might be difficult to get to some of the tables. There’s plug sockets beside some of the tables so you would be able to charge things if you need to.

Toilets

2.5

I think the sign of the disabled is only on the ladies toilet which I feel would make men uncomfortable to use it. It should just be made a gender neutral toilet. The disabled toilet here is very small inside, it would be difficult for a wheelchair user to move around especially if they need help from someone. You can only transfer from the left-hand of the toilet and it is difficult to get into the sink in a wheelchair as foot plates would hit the unit underneath the sink. There is no emergency red cord so if someone fell they wouldn't be able to get help. My friend used the baby change in the disabled toilet but she found it difficult to close it after she used it. It has to be clipped closed once you fold it up but she didn’t have enough hands to close it and hold her baby so she had to use her head to hold it up and one hand to clip it closed. She didn’t want to leave it down because if a wheelchair user came into the toilet there wouldn’t be enough room for them and there might of not been enough room for her to take the pram in with her to put her baby in.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

Luxury caramel latte is delicious. When I have tried to visit Gracie’s previously I tried to book a table but got told I wasn’t able to. There’s not a lot of tables that are very accessible for wheelchairs so I find it difficult to visit if I can’t book a table.
