Overview
This was my first social outing since shielding and I was a bit nervous about going out amongst people again but I'm pleased to say that the staff at this venue did all they could to keep us safe. I was able to phone up beforehand and talk through the options available for sitting outside. When I arrived, there were no tables left outside and I had been told that it was 'first come, first served' but despite this, the staff managed to provide tables and seating outside for me by manoeuvring tables around. Despite social distancing, there was still a really nice buzzing atmosphere and there was also a barbecue tent outside with tables well spaced out. The staff were all lovely and helpfuI and I had a great time.
Transport & Parking
There are two disabled spaces available on site. The hotel is situated on the riverside and is fairly centrally located in Inverness. The bus and train stations are about a 10 minute wheel away; there are taxis available outside the train station. There is also on-street parking available outside the hotel.
Access
Although unable to go inside myself because of the virus, one of our party went in for me to check out the access. There is a ramped entrance to enter the hotel and bar and an automatic door. I would have given more stars if the hotel had a clear accessibility statement on their website; they only say that they have rooms on the ground floor and a walk-in shower but they don't have any disabled rooms per se and they don't have a lift (I phoned to confirm this).
Toilets
There is a disabled toilet off the bar and to the hotel's credit, they are going to make the doorway wider for powerchairs as it's a bit tight. Inside, the toilet is clean and spacious and it has grab rails.
Staff
The staff were lovely and always on hand when we needed anything. When it started to rain, they moved the sun umbrella over me without me having to ask; they were very obliging, courteous and pleasant. I had my wee wild 2 year-old niece with us; she didn't always understand social distancing and sometimes chased balloons about! The security staff member was really good with her and even retrieved her balloons for her.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
The bar staff inside were behind a large screen and the queue was socially distanced, all staff wore masks and cleaned tables often; there were also hand sanitisers available inside and I felt as safe as I could have been made to feel. I would really recommend The Glenmoriston Townhouse Hotel for a drink or a meal; I had a lovely time and I would definitely visit again.
