Overview

The Glastonbury Goddess Temple is dedicated to the worship of the indigenous British Goddess in all of Her many manifesting forms. It is a space for prayer, meditation, celebration and worship of Goddess. The Temple is a very welcoming space but does not have not step free access. I didn't take photos inside, as people were praying and it didn't feel appropriate.

Transport & Parking

Glastonbury does not have a train station. I took the 376 bus from Bristol which took about 1.5 hours. The bus is accessible with a ramp at the front of the bus and a wheelchair user space. There are bus stops outside the Town Hall in both directions. The Temple is located a minute or two's walk away just off the High Street. If you are standing at the bottom of the High Street looking up the hill, on the right hand side of the road there is a step free entrance into the "Glastonbury Experience", the pedestrianised courtyard where the Temple is located. The courtyard also has small shops and a cafe. The courtyard is gated but is open when the venues are. There is a short, covered walkway which opens out into an open air courtyard. The Temple is on the left hand side as you enter.

Access

The Temple is located on the first floor. To reach it there is an external staircase with handrails on both sides, see photo. There is no lift or alternative entrance. With my crutch I found it manageable. The staircase is very solid, although narrow, and straight coming out to a landing where I could comfortably and safely turn towards the final few steps. I'm sorry I can't remember but I think the doorway into the Temple was step free. Once inside the Temple is a single large room on the one floor. However, there is a single step down, with no handrail, which runs the entire width of the room, which is roughly in the middle of the room. The step down leads to the altar area and there is seating either on the floor or chair. The other section of the room has a space for healing. There is a notice asking you to remove your shoes when you enter. I explained that I couldn't bend down and take my shoes off and I was welcomed in. It was not an issue.

NA - there are public accessible toilets close by in St Dunstan's Car Park on Magdalene Street and St John's Car Park in St John's Square.

The Temple is run by volunteers and were very welcoming and helpful. When I arrived one of the volunteers was sitting near the door. I was welcomed in quickly and offered a chair. Later on I asked her some questions and she asked if I would like to be smudged, blessing with sacred smoke. She offered to do this for me either standing or seating. I found this a very beautiful ceremony.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

This is a beautiful, special, sacred space for quiet prayer, mediation or reflection. The Temple is beautifully decorated with imagery of the Goddess and with seasonal decorations. There is the fragrant smell of incense. The Temple is free to visit but donations are appreciated and they also have a ground floor shop opposite the Temple which is step free if you want to purchase gifts. The Temple is open daily but closes at 4pm (at time of writing this review). While the building itself is not step free, it is a very welcoming and inviting space, and well worth visiting if you are in Glastonbury.
