Overview
The Gielgud is one of London's older most accessible theatres. This was my second visit in a power chair and the access and staff could not be faulted. Its unusual to be able to go to a London Theatre in a power chair but there was plenty of space and the view from my chair was not bad ! This theatre also treats disabled visitors in style with a dedicated member of staff available to show you to your seating area, the toilets and comes immediately at the interval and end of the show to assist you. Such a relaxing experience.
Transport & Parking
I got a taxi from Waterloo. A little pricey but they drop you right outside.
Access
Easily accessible spacious side door with portable ramp. As soon as the staff see you arrive you are immediately assigned an individual who is responsible for all your access needs - takes you to the side entrance right next to your seating area.
Toilets
There is a large accessible toilet which is kept locked and only available for disabled patrons. The toilet is in the foyer which is quite difficult to get to through the crowds but our dedicated access attendant (Elizabeth) ensured people moved out of the way and unlocked the toilet before the show and during the interval. She also waited and guided us back to our seating area.
Staff
Brilliant ! I felt very well looked after. Elizabeth was very efficient, prompt, polite and friendly.
