Overview
Small but packed privately owned museum. £6 entry per person. Gemstones of every sort imaginable, and fossils as well, all beautifully displayed and lit in glass cabinets. Fabulous shop with specimens and jewellery, polished stones etc, much better than the website led me to believe. The Crystal Cave showed illuminated specimens and a UV light presentation, short in duration but very helpful. Cafe was lovely, with a simple lunch menu, locally sourced, and some home-baked cakes, Galloway ice-cream etc. Lovely way to spend an afternoon, and of course, I came away with some jewellery from their amazing selection.
Transport & Parking
We drove. Good car park with two disabled spaces
Access
Step free access, slight slope down to reception. All level though slight unevenness in flooring, and a few thresholds. Ramp down to cafe, which was gentle and wide, with handrails both sides. Lots of seating, though strangely none by the short multi-media display in the rock cave, so I sat on my walker seat. Attractive cabinets held the gems, and also the goods in the shop. Professors Study had plenty of seats and some reading materials. Plenty of room for wheelchair or walker, throughout.
Toilets
Clean and easy to use accessible toilet. Space for carer. Good to see paper towels instead of hand driers.
Staff
Staff really lovely, welcoming and happy to help.
