Overview
The Interchange is the transport hub for Galashiels. It hosts the railway station, the bus station, electric vehicle charging, blue badge parking and a handy cafe for refreshments en-route.
Transport & Parking
A superb example of integrated transport options. The hub is a modern, bright and spacious building which has two entrances. One on the railway side of the building where you cross the road via a Pelican Crossing to get to the railway platform. Galashiels is a single track railway line and only has one platform so no need to cross bridges and things. The second entrance is on the town side and leads to a pedestrianised walkway into the core of the town; some five minutes walk away. Buses pull into dedicated stances when they arrive and each stance has an automated door into the Interchange. Within the complex there is a large car park with electric vehicle charging points, disabled parking bays and standard bays.
Access
Access into and around the Interchange was easy for me as a wheelchair user. A ramp to the entrance on the town side, great toilet facilities, an open plan cafe and plenty of screens to see all the arrivals and departures. Lots of seating for resting a while too.
Toilets
The accessible toilet and the Changing Places Toilet were both spacious, well equipped and spotlessly clean.
