Overview
The railway station at Galashiels is fairly new and very accessible. Please note I am not reviewing the trains themselves as these are known to be problematic for many wheelchair users.
Transport & Parking
Obviously as a railway station there are train services. For people travelling using other modes of transport there are several options. The adjacent 'Interchange' is a transport hub and buses arrive and depart from here to numerous locations. There is also a large car park with plenty of accessible parking spaces.
Access
Access to the station was very good with a choice of gentle ramp or steps. The platforms were level and the edges clearly defined with tactile paving. Low level signs, a help point and a shelter were provided. The adjacent travel hub called the Interchange had a ticket office, bus station, cafe, accessible toilets, tourist information and staff available.
Toilets
Toiets were very good. Accessible toilet with RADAR lock adjacent to the Interchange's seating area. The icing on the cake was the Changing Places toilet a short distance from the standard accessible toilet. All toilets were spotlessly clean, modern, well equipped, right and spacious.
Staff
We didn't have any contact with staff but there were people around if you needed help.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
The Interchange - the name for the transport hub by the station; that incorporates the ticket office was confusing when arriving from the station platform as there wasn't any signage to say what it was - it looks like a commercial building and you aren't too sure if you should go in.
