Overview
Opened just over 3 years ago, this is an excellent, medium-sized venue for wheelchair users. A few disabled parking bays in the surface car park - and many others in the multi-story next to the venue. Lifts inside to all levels inside the venue and 4 wheelchair accessible disabled toilets. Unfortunately, these do sometimes get used by the abled-bodied - particularly if it's a comedy night - and especially by lazy or tanked-up men who can't be bothered to walk a few yards or wait in their own queue to use the loo. Several good wheelchair spaces in the front stalls - or the front row of the circle if preferred or for standing/unreserved gigs. There is a restaurant and a café which serves lovely curries on most comedy evenings or snacks or sharing platters for other shows. We go to this venue frequently - probably once a month or more as it attracts many of the big names in comedy which we love, but we've also seen great music gigs too so there is something for everyone here.
Transport & Parking
4 parking bays in the surface car park - and several spaces in the multi-story next to the venue. All easy access for the venue.
Access
One large auditorium for about 1000 + and a smaller, more intimate theatre for up to 90 downstairs. Both easily accessible by lifts depending on which entrance to the venue you use.
Toilets
4 accessible toilets - 2 upstairs, 2 downstairs - one extra large one on each floor. Slight negative is that these also have baby-changing units in and we feel for various reasons that it would be better to separate facilities for babies and the disabled where possible. Toilets are also sadly often abused by the able-bodied too lazy to wait or walk a few yards. A Radar key system would have stopped this.
Staff
Very friendly and always happy to help.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
A great, new and accessible venue - and wheelchair users should feel completely confident about travelling here - just get there a bit early to make sure the car park is easier to negotiate and find your blue-badge space!
