Transport & Parking

2

There is no parking available directly outside the building. It is possible to drive up Friargate to drop a person off outside the entrance, then turn left up Castlegate , go left down Clifford Street and up Tower Street to Castle Car Park. This charges £2.50/hour. Someone can then drive up Castlegate from the car park and go down Friargate to pick someone up outside the entrance. Access

3.5

There are no steps into the building; the main entrance is a paved slope. The pavements nearby are narrow and uneven and the road is cobbled. The reception, meeting room, WCs, seating area and kitchen are all level access. The reception and the meeting room both have double doors, and, if you come for a meeting on a Sunday, there are people at the doors opening them and welcoming you in. A hearing loop is provided

Toilets

The accessible loo was the other side of the entrance to the other loos and was relatively easy to find. The doorways are a little narrow. There are two doors to go through. One was open when I saw it, but if it was closed it would require opening. The second door is a sliding door. Neither are wide. The room itself was a little small, so it may be difficult is using a wheelchair or if carer support is required. There was a raised toilet seat and two folding support rails beside the toilet. A wall-mounted handrail next to the sink had a towel hanging on it. There was an alarm cord. The room was clean and tidy enough, but could have been better.

Staff

The reception staff were happy to discuss options for parking and were happy for me to look around the place and answer any questions I had. When visiting during meetings on a Sunday there has always been two people at the door ready to make visitors feel very welcome and included.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

I would recommend the Friargate Quaker Meeting House. It is a very welcoming inclusive place to come and be quiet for an hour on a Sunday morning and feel part of a community. The meeting is held in a large room with various options for seating. There is a small library which you are welcome to read or borrow from, a place to help yourself to hot drinks and biscuits and a place to sit down, all in the main space. It is open 9am-9pm Mon-Thu, 9am-5pm Fri-Sat and 10am-12:30pm Sun.
