Overview
This was somewhere that was on our list of ‘ to do’s ‘ for a while, before we went to the Diamond Jubilee Room, we had a good rummage round the 6 floors. Totally accessible, totally enjoyable and totally worth it. The theme throughout the store was the Queens Jubilee. That added to the occasion. You would expect everything to be right and proper and it was.
Transport & Parking
Unless you are using Tube or taxi these are the only convenient ways to travel to and throughout Piccadilly. It’s a busy thoroughfare, with bus stops adjacent to the store and 3 Tube stations within 150m.
Access
Two entrances with power doors, and on street level, the aisles were wide enough and spacious, but it’s a busy, busy store - specifically on the ground floor. There was signage with directions to lifts, floor directory, toilets and pay points. There was no seating on the food retail floors, though each floor had a sit down light bite, restaurant and tea room located. There were ample staff on hand to advise, enquire and offer support, with a courtesy and warmth you would expect. In the tea rooms there were braille equivalent menus. We were shown to a very spacious area with wall seating and conventional table and chairs. There was a very eclectic mix of diners and numbers including families with children and high chairs. The tea itself, there were 3 different menu teas available including a broad range of dietary and provision including non meat and vegan. 120 different teas, sandwiches, pastries and cakes as well as coffee, as much as you wanted. The table was laid out in the classic Fortnum and Mason colours to the standard you would expect for £70.00 per person. Though well, well worth it. Plus you could take away anything you wanted too !.
Toilets
Again, as you would expect the toilets were of the highest standard both in accessibility and provision. There red cords , grab rails and all the fittings and fixtures were correctly placed at the desired height. Did not check to see if there was a changing places toilet.
Staff
As you would expect in a building such as this. There is no substitute for excellence in service and courtesy.
