Overview
Level access venue to spend the afternoon doing a very therapeutic activity in Broughty Ferry, Dundee.
Transport & Parking
There is on-street parking available close by but, Broughty Ferry can get quite busy so this usually isn’t available. I parked in the council car park just off Brooke Street which is about a 2 minute walk from Ferry Potty, especially if you go through the side street area at the back of the car park beside The Anchor bar. There are other car parks around Broughty Ferry that are around a 5 minute walk away. Broughty Ferry is a very central area of Dundee so buses come from all over Dundee and Angus. I’d say the bus stops are about a 5 minute walk away from Ferry Potty. There is a train station in Broughty Ferry that again is about a 5 minute walk away but, trains don’t stop here as often as they do at Dundee’s main train station.
Access
There is the slightest of steps to get into Ferry Potty however, I can 100% say that any wheelchair user would be able to get up it. You can see this in the first image at the bottom of this review. When I visited in September it was still quite warm so the entrance door was already open. However, if it wasn’t open my carer would have had to open it for me as it wasn’t automatic. It looked like a heavy door and there wasn’t a bell outside so you wouldn’t be able to alert staff if you needed help to enter. The shop is quite small inside though and the door has glass panels so someone would be able to see you at the door. As I said inside Ferry Potty was quite small so I don’t think anyone with a large powerchair would manage to visit. We were seated at the table right at the door so it was easy enough to get to. I think if it was really busy I would have struggled to get to any of the other tables. The table was at a good height for my wheelchair, the paints and brushes were at the centre of the table so I wasn’t able to reach them myself and my carer had to pass me things. I think the staff would be more than happy to get you anything you need. All the items that you are able to paint are on shelves on the side wall inside the venue and I would say it is easy enough to see everything that is available.
Toilets
I unfortunately didn’t see if they had an accessible toilet here.
Staff
When I visited I think it was one of the owners running Ferry Potty, he was very friendly and helpful. He explained how the whole process worked and he was on hand if we needed any help. My friend had her grandson with her and we were able to get a bowl for his baby food and hot water for his bottle.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
I'd recommend booking a table as there aren't many available and some are hard to get to in a wheelchair.
