Overview

Loved the location, recently renovated Victorian Hotel with magnificent views across Loch Etive. Good Food at reasonable prices, and friendly attentive staff. Overall poor signage to car parking, accessible access and lack of an accessible toilet let it down.

Transport & Parking

4.5

We travelled by car, and had difficulty finding exactly where the accessible entrance was due to lack of signage. Accessible car parking was located by driving up the side of the hotel, and around the back of the hotel to another car park. Plenty of parking near the public bar door, which is the accessible access to the Bistro and Hotel. No dedicated accessible parking spaces, but plenty of room. There is a main Car park at front and side of hotel, but access to hotel is up several very steep steps. There is a railway station in the village and public buses stop on the main road outside the hotel, but the many steep steps to the hotel would pose problems for those with limited mobility, railings are in situ beside the steps. The hotel is located 10 minutes from Oban Airport

Access

4.5

Once we found how to get in access was quite good. Signage was sadly lacking from parking to accessing the hotel, my companion had to go in to ask where the Bistro was, which turns out was in the public bar. There is a level path along the front of the hotel with the most amazing views, and seating outside, then a small step into the main part of the hotel. Wheelchair access to all parts of the hotel, bar, restaurant and Bistro is through the public bar entrance. On entering the bar , you have to navigate around a large square fireplace, I had difficulty manoeuvring past it with my wheelchair, larger power chairs would struggle. Public rooms of hotel are all on the level, and I believe they have ground floor bedrooms although this was not explored on this visit. there did not seem to be a lift in situ to access upper rooms. Plenty of seating and plenty of room for wheelchair users. As previously mentioned the main entrance is accessed via several very steep steps with railings.

Toilets

There was no accessible loo. I did ask, and was shown to the ladies toilets by the lady behind the bar, and advised that wheelchair users used the normal toilets. I discovered on entering them that this was impossible and had to phone my companion to help me get back out again, due to lack of room

all the staff were friendly, professional, attentive and willing to help.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

Lovely place for a meal, they change their specials menu every week, portions are generous and prices are not expensive. Beautiful views and surroundings and a beautiful old building. A few signs showing how to get to accessible car parking and accessible access to building would be helpful, and an accessible toilet, but given the age of the building this may not be possible . I would definitely visit again, but make sure I'd been to the loo first
