Overview
What an enjoyable way to spend an afternoon, a lovely driveway when arriving, historical buildings, comfort, style, pleasant surroundings, and a delight afternoon tea. AFTERNOON TEA, OR CREAM TEAS, NEED TO BE PREORDERED THE DAY BEFORE AT LEAST. This is our fourth review for you of Ettington Park, on the outskirts of Stratford apon Avon, and we are as delighted with the hotel as we were on our first visit in 2021. To help you decide when you will visit yourselves, take a look at our recent photos as we explain why Ettington Park is worth visiting. THEN READ our other reviews on EUANS GUIDE for a full picture of Ettington Park. Photo 1. To enter the hotel, there are three high steps, but staff will immediately be on hand to place down a ramp for you, it’s just a simple metal ramp, and you can just see it below my wheelchair. If you book afternoon tea or lunch ahead of time, and ask for ramp, then it will be ready when you arrive. Photo two You will be greeted at reception, and staff will direct and help you into the bar lounge area. Photo 3, 4 and 5 We like to sit and relax beforehand at the bar, a very small but cosy enough room, comfortable seats, a good selection of drinks available. Photo 6 Staff will be ready to take you into the Great Hall Restaurant. Photo 7 The Light air room of muted colour schemes, leather chairs, dark wooden tables add the feeling of character to the room, beautiful ceiling, oil paintings grace the walls, with large picturesque windows brighten up the restaurant, where breakfast, and your afternoon tea will be served. Photo 8 You may be fortunate to be offered a table near the windows which overlook the gardens and landscaped lawns ahead. There is room to place your wheelchair at the table, or choose to sit on their comfortable leather chairs. While you sit and admire, and sip your chosen tea, served in pleasant crockery by helpful staff. Photo 9 The beautiful gardens may be entered via the level entrance just beyond the Great Hall, and next to the Oak restaurant. DO READ OUR OTHER REVIEWS IN EUANS GUIDE for details about the gardens and the open wooded lawn areas, as these are delightful gardens. Photo 10 While you take your second cup of tea, you can prepare yourself for the delights to follow Photo 11 and 12 Afternoon tea at its best, beautifully presented, your selection of finger sandwiches with handmade bread which are freshly prepared when you arrive, will be followed by lovely warm freshly baked scones, jam and cream. And then a delightful selection of hand made crafted delicate deserts which will really please you all. Do sit, relax, enjoy the atmosphere and experience of Ettington Park, and plan your next visit, you will be tempted. NOW we need to find the toilets Photo 13 It’s a bit of a distance from your table, and you will need to leave the Great Hall, exit into the bar area, go across into reception and go across to the left hand corner to pass the lifts for bedrooms, and go ahead to the far corner. Photo 14 We found this a bit of a nuisance, there are other guest moving around, perhaps a number of wedding guest may also be in this area and it’s not all that wide a passage. Sadly, to your left, and up stairs, stand the ladies toilets, completely of no use to disabled, so you will need to head to the larger doorway ahead to find the disabled toilets. Photo 15 Then you will need to go through the double doors that lead towards the stairs for bedrooms, and for disabled toilet. This was not easy, you have to pull the doors towards you, and they are rather heavy. Fortunately, there are staff members moving around who will willingly help you. Photo 16 After pushing open the disabled toilet door, you will find a small, narrow toilet area. Our photo shows you it’s not that big inside, difficult to spin your wheelchair, and larger scooters may find it very difficult to use the room. However, it does have a pull cord and a rail you may find helpful. For these reasons we have given low marks for the disabled toilet. DO NOT LET THIS PUT YOU OFF VISITING, YOU CAN COPE WE FEEL SURE and Ettington Park will delight you in all other areas of your visit.
Transport & Parking
Arriving at the main gateway and taking the long driveway is a very pleasant drive, through woodland scenery, distant views of countryside, and an imposing building as you arrive at the hall.
Access
Parking is available close to the main entrance, and its looks so inviting. There are high steps to get up to be able to enter reception, bur help is always available, a will member of staff will greet you and happily put a ramp into place to let you enter in comfort and will push you up into reception. Inside, the hotel is all on the level, with a doorway beyond the Grand Hall and then the Oak room restaurant which is all level, and you can get out into the gardens from there.
Toilets
Disabled toilets are not getting top marks because we found them rather difficult to use. Our photos and review will explain more for you, but bear in mind that most disabled people can cope, just take your time, and accept the help that staff are always willing to help you with.
Staff
Very pleasant, well mannered and helpful, they will look after you well here.
