Overview

Fascinating and quirky family home of the Yorkes, with amazing servants' area and outbuildings, and lovely gardens. A really short and easy walk from car park compared with many NT properties. And whole of garden area quite flat, there is step free access to almost all of it, though loose gravel with larger stones scattered through it makes some of the further paths not so good. Reasonable number of seats throughout garden, though more would be better! Stunning formal parterre next to house, walled garden, creeper-covered West Front with sweeping landscaped views (but sadly no seats!) Many fruit trees, Apple Harvest in October a yearly highlight. Cobbled yard where tearoom, shop, etc located has flat track laid for wheelchairs/pushchairs around most of it, but you do have to cross really uneven vintage cobbled surfaces for short distances. Step free access to ground floor of house and servants quarters, but only virtual tour of upper floors available. Main restaurant upstairs with lift for disabled access, ground floor tearoom. Plenty of outdoor seating in attractive historic yard area, a lovely sun trap where we often while away an hour with a delicious Monty's Brewery beer!

Transport & Parking

5

There are 10 or so disabled parking spaces about 80 yards walk from main entrance, and one space with electric charging facilities. We've never had trouble finding a disabled space, but most of the other parking is still pretty close and easy. Public transport very limited, think you would probably need to use taxi from Wrexham town centre if not in a car.

Access

3.5

Usual issues with NT places - gravel paths, though the ones nearer house were fine with rollator. Many uneven cobbles, good efforts made to create smooth path, but could be improved! Historic nature of building means impossible to access upper floors In spite of these drawbacks, we feel its a good place to have an enjoyable day out, you are never too horribly far from the toilets, and there is plenty to see and enjoy

Toilets

3.5

Good size main toilet block off this yard with step free access, disabled toilet is around corner with rather uneven cobbles to cross to get to it, but at least there is separate mother and baby room, unusual for NT. Martin didn't need to use it as main toilets step-free, but all looked good
