Overview
Elms Farm Cottages is a collection of 9 accessible luxury holiday cottages and licensed accessible wedding venue in south Lincolnshire. A couple of miles outside the market town of Boston, Elms Farm is perfectly situated to enjoy a relaxing countryside retreat, as a base to explore the beautiful county of Lincolnshire or as a classy venue and accommodation to enjoy your big day. Whatever the size of your family or individual requirements, Elms farm is sure to have a suitable holiday cottage for you. Created from old farm barns and outbuildings, the award-winning cottages have been designed with disabled visitors in mind whilst keeping a homely farmhouse feel. Cottages of this standard are rarely seen with so many accessible features, couple with that Carol, a truly lovely owner, we would highly recommend a holiday at Elms Farm Cottages, and we'll certainly be visiting again.
Transport & Parking
Elms Farm has a large car park at the rear of the cottages. All cottages are accessible from the car park via a flat path to the courtyard and cottage front doors. Some of the cottages are accessible via rear doors directly from the car park. Elms Farm is at Hubbert's Bridge outside Boston which is served by public transport including buses and rail. We didn't use public transport so visitors would be advised to check whether it's suitable for your individual access needs.
Access
We stayed in the two bedroomed Elm Cottage. All on one level, it was perfectly adequate for our needs and included a double bedroom with en-suite wet room and shower. The living area was spacious, with level access from the courtyard and garden area. The highlight for us was the large brick fireplace with log burning fire although the weather was kind to us so we didn't use it. The fully equipped kitchen is off the living area as is a further large bedroom and family bathroom with bath. if you need additional mobility aids, Carol has a selection that can be moved from cottage to cottage or items can be hired from local mobility suppliers prior to your visit. We are confident, Carol will do all she can to assist you and help you make your stay as accessible and comfortable as possible. There is a full list of accessible features and floorplan on the Elms Farm Cottages website.
Toilets
In our cottage, the en-suite accessible toilet and shower were ideal. The cottage does not have a hoist, therefore, if you are a portable hoist user, speak to Carol to check what facilities can be put in place for you or to confirm your own portable hoist will fit in the wet room. For non-hoist users, there are multiple grab rails and bars and a portable shower seat so the toilet and shower facilities should be more than adequate. Please note, each cottage is individual, you should check in advance what facilities are available in your chosen cottage, Carol will be more than happy to advise before booking.
Staff
As you may have gathered from our previous comments, we were immediately drawn to Carol, not least because of her commitment to accessible tourism. Her understanding and appreciation of the difficulties people with access needs face is admirable. Her knowledge of accessibility in the local area is impressive and her happy demeanour immediately put us at ease. All that said, this in no way influenced our glowing review as Elms Farm Cottages in their own right deserves our endorsement and then some.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
Just when we thought Elms Farm couldn't get any better, it did. Carol has introduced an outdoor eating area complete with stone built BBQ's and a Pizza Oven. Seeing is believing, this area is probably the best outdoor eating area we have seen and by far eclipses any expectations we had of a BBQ area.
