Overview

The half a star comes off because, well, it is a *lot* of slopes to deal with. I think it's worth it, for others, it might not be. Other than that, it's the most accessible nature environment I've ever been in. That they have thought about accessibility from the outset is evident - it hasn't been bodged in as an afterthought.

Transport & Parking

4.5

Blue badge holders use the car parks nearest the entrance. A signboard gives a phone number to use if you need staff assistance to get from the car to the entrance. The slopes to the car parks are very, very steep.

Access

4.5

Front doors and main paths all the way. Large lift in the Link building (between the biomes). The rear carriage of the Land Train can accommodate wheelchairs with minimum fuss. There are only a couple of no-go zones (eg the observation platform at the very top of the Rainforest).

Toilets

5

Changing Places toilet at the main entrance building. Standard accessible toilets are at every location where there are also Ladies' and Gents' toilets, including both floors of the Link and the Core. Space not filled with bins/etc.

Staff

5

All staff are friendly, helpful, well informed, and actively ask for input about what needs improving. Equality training is offered. Some wear badges indicating that they can use BSL.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

The Eden Project website has much more detailed access information readily available, for the site as a whole and also for specific events such as the recent ice skating (yes, I went on the ice in my chair). There is also access info about planned future developments.

This is a great place for a handicap visitor to visit, and the restaurant is exceptional and very reasonable . I agree with the reviewer, the slopes on the exterior gardens are quite steep. Of particular note is the air conditioned room in the tropical dome to recuperate after ascending the interior of the dome.
