Access is fair but food and ambiance is fun

Overview

Eddie Rockets is a retro, 1950s American diner themed restaurant, serving hamburgers, hotdogs, fries, shakes malts and retro floats. There are vegetarian options. It is a fun place to go. There are several branches in Dublin and across Ireland. I visited the Dame Street branch in Temple Bar and access was fair.

Transport & Parking

There are several bus routes that stop along Dame Street and local buses have a ramp at the front.

Access

3.5

There is a small step up to the entrance and a manual front door which is not particularly wide. Inside at the front there is fixed booth seating, all of which is raised slightly off the floor, see photo. For me I was able to park my bottom on the sofa and then swung my legs in. The booths are quite compact. There is some non-raised seating at the back of the restaurant, see photo. It would have been helpful to have this at the front of the restaurant, so you would not have to walk through the entire length of the restaurant to get to it.

Toilets

I did not notice any accessible toilet and the toilet sign indicated that the toilets were downstairs in the basement which was only accessible by a steep set of stairs with a handrail on the left as you went down. I took the photo from the top and did not even attempt to try visiting them.

Staff

Staff were lovely, friendly and helpful. I ordered at my table and food was served to me there. There was a short wait for the food to arrive and service throughout was extremely good and quick.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

The restaurant has some noticeable access issues, I managed with my crutch, partly knowing I was going onto the theatre so I could wait and use the toilets there. The positives are that the food was very good, I loved the menu, service was great and and themed décor made it a lot of fun. Yes I would happily go back, but as its is a chain, I would suggest contacting them in advance if you have any mobility access needs, to check the layout.
