Overview

Princes Street Gardens runs along one side of Princess Street, one of the main thoroughfares of Edinburgh, with amazing views over to Edinburgh Castle. The Garden is split into two separate parks, East and West Gardens. This review is for the East Gardens, which I found easier to get around. Please see separate listening for the West Garden. The East Garden is from Waverley Station/ Sir Walter Scott's Memorial to the National Galleries of Scotland. While it is very easy to get to, it is very difficult to get around, with only some step free paths being safely accessible, as the gardens lie in a valley.

Transport & Parking

Princes Street Gardens occupies one side of the main shopping street, so there are lots of bus routes that pass the garden. At the east end of the garden is Waverley Railway Station, Edinburgh's main train station. The tram stops close by too in St Andrew's Square.

Access

The East Garden has level access from pavement to park. There are step free, level entrances at both ends, at Sir Walter Scott's Memorial and the National Galleries of Scotland. The gate was open. There is a concreate path, level that runs parallel with Princess Street which has bench seating with back support and arms. The majority of the garden lies in a valley. I saw steps by the National Galleries of Scotland end down to the gardens. However, I didn't notice a step free route.

Toilets

I did not see any accessible toilets.

Staff

I did not see any staff. However, the gardens are beautifully maintained.

I found West Garden the most accessible of the two Princess Street Gardens. I would be happy to return here.
