Overview

This park is best visited with some power to your wheels other than self push! There is a flat hard surface (with a little vibration) around the central boating lake but the rest of the paths go up a slope that would be hard going in a manual chair. Our visit was a busy, sunny day and the review reflects this. Very few flowers out this time of year so it's mostly people watching as the main activity. The lake has ducks and geese and families on pedalos.

Transport & Parking

2.5

On a sunny Sunday afternoon the car park we used was full. There is a hard surface car park for around 45 cars but only a few reserved blue badge spaces with no safety markings to exit the vehicle. There is another car park entrance with a few spaces on the opposite side to the park (cafe side).

Hard surface wide paths are flat around the lake but have a little vibration to them. The lake has no barrier between path and water. The whole park has plenty of benches and a few picnic tables (no wheelchair seating gap) . The slopes have a hard path between the grassy banks leading up to the cafe and toilets. There is quite a camber on smaller side paths.

Toilets

I didn't use the toilet in the cafe because you had to get past the queue through the single door, navigate between fairly close tables to the back of the room. It also looked like a tight turn and seemed to double up as the ladies toilet. Just before the cafe there is a toilet block with a good clean toilet, full support rails but no wash basin rails. This one uses the RADAR key. See photos.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

The cafe was very busy with a queue to get in through a single door. I only just fit scraping the sides of a bin. Inside had about 7 round tables and a few outside on a balcony. Space was very limited between tables. Ordering counter was low and the menu easily seen. Cash only purchases. Sandwiches, jackets, cooked breakfast or variations off. We had a full English - grease and all.
