Overview
Visited as a group and had a great experience thanks to the staff and work that has been done to help disabled visitors.
Transport & Parking
We came via tour bus and was dropped off at the entrance. There is limited blue badge bay parking available. Unaware of any public transport options.
Access
The layout of the starting building is clearly signposted and effective even in a small space. There is slow decline to the castle itself and later some uneven ground/cobblestones. The staff brought out a wooden ramp so I could get up to another level. However the “main rooms” of the castle were not accessible for wheelchair users (up 3/4 large steps). You can still get an amazing view from the middle part - on a clear day you can see Scotland from the Antrim coast!
Toilets
Available at the visitor centre at the beginning. Down a short winding path which has enough space for my wide power chair. Doors were light, handrails on both sides of bathroom and enough room to get a chair in.
Staff
Amazing. Upon finding I would have trouble getting up to a part of the castle that had interesting drawings and views, they brought out a makeshift solid ramp and ensured I could get up and down safely. As I couldn’t get up to the main rooms they stood with me and gave me a “private tour”, expertly described. For me this makes up for missing out on some extra castle.
