Overview

Opened on the 23rd of April 2008, Dunfermline Bus Station is a relatively recent addition to Dunfermline's transport infrastructure. Located close to the west entrance of the Kingsgate Shopping Centre, it's a hub for the city centre and beyond. With fourteen stances, two accessible toilets and a café, it's better equipped than many other small stations. Lets see how it shapes up.

Transport & Parking

4

There isn't a dedicated car park at this location, but there are three accessible parking spaces available on Douglas Street, 100m from Stance 1. I parked at the front entrance of the station on Queen Anne Street, where I found four standard parking spaces. You'll also find the drop-off point and taxi rank on this street. The closest bus stop is on Carnegie Street, 322 metres from the station. Dunfermline City Railway Station is a fair trek from the bus station and not an easy journey, whether walking or wheeling. I'd suggest coming by bus or car if you are able.

Access

3

The access in this step-free station is decent, with automatic doors operational at both the station entrance and the stances. Induction loops operate at both the station manager's office and the ticket office - with each featuring a lowered counter. There is a slight slope at the entrance to the station. A small, dog-friendly café is located near stance 1, offering snacks, some delicious looking cakes and hot drinks seven days a week. As of this review, the cafe is open 8:30–17:00 Monday to Saturday and 12:00-1600 on Sunday. There are wicker chairs, and plenty of space to sit. There is additional seating throughout the station, mostly metal seats with armrests. You'll also find a small newsagent, selling snacks, papers and soft drinks.

Toilets

3

There are two accessible toilets at this location, one to the left of the main entrance next to the newsagent and a second near the café. The first requires a RADAR key to access, with the door opening outward. The toilet is spacious and can accommodate a powerchair and several people. The toilet pan has a soft backrest with grab rails on both sides. There is space for a right-side transfer, and the path is clear. The small sink features a lever-style tap and grab rails on both sides. The second toilet is smaller and less accessible for powerchair users due to the limited space. While there is space for a left-side transfer, the nappy bin and wet floor sign blocking this area make it unusable. A wall-mounted baby change table is also installed in the transfer space. The door opens outward and doesn't need a RADAR key. The grab rails do not contrast with the toilet furniture or the walls in either toilet. Neither toilet has a colostomy shelf However, I’m glad to say that the red cord hung to the floor in both toilets.

Staff

4

I spoke to a member of staff at the manager's office, as the ticket office was temporarily closed. They provided me with a RADAR key for the toilet, as I had left mine at home, and ensured I was well looked after.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

There are personal lockers available at this location. Only one of double-doors was opened at the café, though the staff advised the second door can be opened if requested.
