Overview
We visited the Abbey and Palace having read the helpful access information on the website. This was going to be one of those places where the ancient spiral staircases would prevent access. However, we were able to wheel along the perimeter and get vies down on to the building remnants.
Transport & Parking
We couldn’t fault the parking as we were able to park alongside the Abbey Church and adjacent to the Abbey and Palace using our Blue Badge. There were also some on street parking bays. It’s not too far to walk from there to see the Carnegie Birthplace Museum as well as the new Carnigie Libarary and Galleries.
Access
Although access for me as a wheelchair user was not great I was encouraged by the information made available on the ŵebsite and the ability to phone the Steward and get access to a tarmac walkway where you could look down on much of the site. By walking around the perimeter where you could you got some great views. You could also wheel through the main remaining archway which gave a feel for the scale of the Abbey.
Toilets
There are no toilets on the site but the adjacent, 100m, new library and museum building had excellent toilets including a Changing Places Toilet.
Staff
Enthusiastic and welcoming.
