Overview
As with most of us it’s sales time in January, and that ‘ we need new curtains ‘ routine. Dunelm was the already chosen place, it is situated in Straiton Retail Park near Loanhead on the A701 route south via Penicuik. The original site was created 25 yeas ago - where most of the outlets are located, other additional outlets are on a lower level which is a more recent addition. Curtains and bedding with other home wares are this brands main business. If you are or not into this type of shopping they have an extensive range of ready made and made to measure products, entrance and exit is on one level, the store is on 2 floors with a large, spacious lift, adequate room for a power chair, wheelchair with carer, assistance dogs are welcome.
Transport & Parking
With a car, there is substantial parking and disabled spaces, each car park services each area but it is not sectioned unless you want to visit the Sainsbury’s and it’s petrol and LPG outlet at the southern end. Buses to city and out of town services are plentiful, there are 3 bus stops that service each area of the retail park, the park and ride is 50 m from the Straiton bus stop next to the pedestrian crossing on the main A701. There are no parking charges.
Access
Probably this position was false given the sales but the store was very busy and the car park more congested than usual. Other than that excellent. Our entrance and exit xitwas near the McDonalds at Loanhead Junction.
Toilets
Not in this facility, but there are toilet facilities at the food outlets and restaurants on site, further to the southern end the Sainsbury’s has an extensive store with fully equipped and serviced access toilet, RADAR key option.
Staff
Excellent, asked if were wanting anything specific, offer to take us to the lift and the curtain area, offered me the a touch, sensory feel of the fabric and texture - though she who must be obeyed said ‘ that’s what your buying ‘ , so decision made. The staff were fantastic can’t fault them.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
As said it was busy and access for those with chair or scooter would have found it a bit tight, but ok. Dunelm is at the Eastern end of the site with pavement areas to other retailers, this end is the busiest, especially near the junction - so caution and extra care is needed. There is a website for Straiton Retail Park with a full directory of retailers and their location.
