Incredible accessible changing/bathroom facility
Visit date:
Overview
As a part of the MND Scotland Research Team I visited Dundee Science Centre to view it as a venue for an engagement event our team was planning. The entrance was a ground level and in close proximity to the car park which included accessible parking spaces. The cafe and prism space which we viewed for our event was spacious with an accessible bathroom close by. We were particularly impressed by the accessible changing/bathroom facility which was located round the corner from the cafe.
Transport & Parking
There are 2 car parks on site run by Dundee city council, each with accessible bays, and a multi-storey car park located near by.
Access
Neither my colleague or I face any accessibility challenges, however, we did note the following. The entrance is at ground level, there is plenty of space between tables in the cafe area and entryways to the accessible bathrooms was spacious. Lifts are available to access to the second floor of the venue.
Toilets
The accessible changing/bathroom was incredibly spacious and was fitted with: - a toilet with lots of space around it, one fixed and one manouverable rail - toilet roll holder is on one of the rails so is reachable from the toilet - assistance cords which reached to the floor - a height adjustable sink - a large changing table - a hoist covering the entire length of the room - a shower We were informed that this changing facility is available for use to anyone requiring its use in the area, not only for science centre patrons.
Staff
The staff member who took us around the venue was incredibly pleasant and helpful. She provided us with lots of information, was able to answer many of our questions and got back to us promptly via email with any questions which we they had to seek advice on.
