Overview
Dundee Carers Centre aims to improve the lives of carers and those living with disabilities through practical and emotional support, counselling, advocacy, training and information about services, rights and benefits. The staff are all so lovely and the support they provide can make such a big difference. They can offer self-care activity vouchers for carers and provides free counselling with trained professionals. I believe there are staff who are familiar with sign language, theres a loop system for those with hearing problems. Entry is through an electric door, theres a slight ramp from the pavement to the door. Inside is very spacious, there are two accessible toilets and everything is easily accessible. The reception desk is quite high but wasn’t a problem.
Transport & Parking
There is no official parking, it is directly across from Dundee bus station and in the centre of town so easy to access by bus or train. There’s a little lane next to it that’s perfect for being dropped off by car.
Access
Everything is one one level, step-free access with automatic doors. Plenty of space to manoeuvre. There are seats as soon as you come in then a few meters away there is another seating area. There are also seats in the kitchen area. The meeting rooms are all accessible and, depending on the room, seats can need moved if needed. The tables in the conference rooms are a good height and the wheelchair fits under perfectly. The kitchen is wide enough to enter and turn around in.
Toilets
There are two easy-to-find accessible toilets. Both have a turning circle, chairs, low sinks, and grab rails. They are always clean and tidy and there is space for a carer. There are red emergency cords that hang to the floor inbetween the toilet and the chair and have Euans guide signs on them
Staff
There are two staff on reception who can provide information and assistance. They have always been really helpful and friendly. They go the extra mile to help others especially with accessibility issues
