This review is especially helpful for those who have or use the following: Walking Aid, Wheelchair, Powerchair
Overview
Attended an appointment at the XRay Dept, of this new hospital which was miles away from the entrance . Wheelchair friendly throughout, but would advise using one of the chairs available at the entrance for anyone with mobility restrictions. Carpark is a fair distance from the entrance too, but on the plus side the hospital has a Changing Places toilet on the ground floor.
Transport & Parking
Public bus stop a short walking distance from the main entrance, with plenty of adjacent seating to rest Large carpark with plenty of accessible parking spaces , but a bit of a walk for those with mobility restrictions Car park has 80 electric charging points, but did not notice if any of these were situated in the accessible parking areas Drop off points nearer the main entrance for those with restricted mobility
Access
Automatic doors at entrance, though did have to pass through a heavy door on the way to the department, but staff assisted with doors. Good signage throughout, and huge information board at Welcome desk at main entrance. Lifts available. Plenty of seating on ground floor, and on route to outpatients and X-ray department. Volunteers available at Welcome to desk to assist those requiring help to transport with chairs to the wards and other departments . Induction loop available at Welcome Desk and all reception desks. Translation services available, but advised to advise of need of this prior to attending
Toilets
Plenty of accessible loos on the ground floor and outpatients department, well signposted Information board at entrance advises where accessible loos are located throughout the building, although the board fails to mention that a Changing Places Toilet is available on the ground floor in the main atrium. Loos are roomy & clean , with plenty of grab rails, red cords hanging to the floor
Staff
Staff were really helpful, and understanding. The radiography staff in particular , and the lady at reception who booked me in. I sat waiting for a taxi just inside the door , due to the cold, and several staff stopped in the passing to ensure my well-being
Anything else you wish to tell us?
Particularly liked that the sanitising stations have a sanitiser at wheelchair height, the first time I have seen this. They also provided antibacterial wipes at the entrance/ exit to use with wheelchairs. Excellent signage on the use of masks and social distancing, Also signage to advise on good communication with masks
