Overview
I visited with a friend on 9 September 2022. At the time of reservation I confirmed on my booking that I was a wheelchair user. On arrival I was able to access the premises without any difficulty BUT when I needed to use the toilet I was told that I could use the ladies!! To be clear, the only advantage the ladies has over the gents is that you can get through the door in a wheelchair for privacy to empty a catheter bag into a bottle but nothing else. No ability to turn the chair...and certainly no access to the toilet cubicles. In raising my complaint with the owner Malcolm Duck, his response was...and I quote...."We have a number of wheelchair users who come here. The ladies toilets are wheelchair accessible, that is demonstrated on a fairly regular basis. They are not, and we do not describe them as, disabled. That would create a different expectation......"If you asked about disabled toilets you should not simply have been told we don't have them, you should have been told we have wheelchair accessible ones. I am sorry if this caused concern." Doesn't this explanation give a whole new meaning to the working understanding in our community of wheelchair accessible?! And why offer ramped access to a bar/restuarant that does not have the prerequisite toilet facilities available?
