Overview
Heuston is a terminus station provides inter-city train services from Dublin to Cork, Limerick, Waterford, Galway, Mayo and Kerry. The station has step free access, a Changing Places toilet and a nice concourse. I travelled to/ from here twice, once to Newbridge and one to Kildare.
Transport & Parking
The railway station services may cities in Ireland. Immediately outside the station is the step free tram station Heuston, which serves the red line. There are several buses that stop outside including the Airport buses.
Access
The station is all located on the ground floor and has step free access. There are a series of automatic double doors at the entrance. The concourse is not overwhelming in size and has plenty of seats with back support (which was very handy as I had nearly and hour to wait for my train and I found them comfortable. There are a number of shops and food stalls dotted around the perimeter and in the concourse. There are several platform and on both occasions my train departed from a B platform, this is the furthest away from the ticket barriers, with platform A being nearest. I found it quite a long walk without luggage and it was not helped with a lack of seating on the platform so I could rest on route. As a visitor what would have been helpful would have been helpful a map to see where the trains went to from the station.
Toilets
The Changing Places toilet is to the left of the ticket barriers if you are facing the platforms. The manual door is locked but there is a call button, see photo, to the side of the door where you can buzz and ask for the key. There was a member of staff about so I did not need to call for help. The Changing Places toilet is very large, clean, tidy and well maintained. There is a height adjusted changing bench and shower. However I am not sure if the hoist is located in the right direction as it appears to go directly overhead of the sink. There are plenty of grab rails but I don't recall seeing an emergency cord. I am not sure if the station has any other accessible toilets.
Staff
I had minimal interaction with staff but the member of staff was by the toilets, saw me and proactively came over and opened the door.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
Had a very positive experience and would happily use this station again.
