Overview

Dublin International Airport is about 5 miles north of the city centre. It is has two terminals. The staff told me that Terminal One caters mostly to Ryan Air flights, while Terminal Two caters to BA and transatlantic flights. I was with BA so flew in and out of Terminal Two, which is what this review is focusing on. I found the terminal building step free, and the passenger assistance staff really stood out with their excellent service.

Transport & Parking

The airport is a few miles outside of Dublin. In the airport grounds there are plenty of bus stops where there are buses into Dublin city centre and across Ireland. It was helpful checking the transport connections map, which I found online, to see where you need to make for if your onward journey is by bus as there are several bus stops covering quite a large area. The map has coloured coded routes to show you how to go from both terminals to a particular bus stop areas. At the airport they use these colour coding to mark out the route. There is no train station at the airport, so the other option is taking a taxi. I was lucky that I chose a hotel in north Dublin which meant that I could get the local bus from/ to the station. The buses have step free access with a ramp at the front of the bus. This meant it cost 2.50 euros (in 2024) each way for me to travel from the airport to my hotel, and there was a regular service.

ARRIVAL AT TERMINAL TWO On arrival I was able to disembark from the aircraft without the use of an Ambulift. I was quickly taken through the airport by passenger assistance to the arrivals hall. I then made my own way to the bus stop. DEPARTING FROM TERMINAL TWO I entered Terminal Two by the door nearest to where I was dropped off by the bus. There was no signage for passenger assistance, so I had to ask where it was. the passenger assistance is at the OCS desk, by the last door, see photo. Next to it is a small seated waiting area. You are then taken through security directly to your departure gate. I was asked if I wanted duty free but I said no. From the departure gate I transferred directly onto the plane.

Toilets

I only used the toilet before security. While it was spacious, clean, tidy and well maintained, the emergency cord was high off the ground, see photo. There were plenty of grab rails. I do not now if the airport has a Changing Places toilet.

Staff

The passenger assistance staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful. The passenger assistance met me getting off the plane and took me quickly though to the exit. I was taken to the arrivals hall and although I exited out of the building from there, the airport is large and I had to navigate myself, crutch and suitcase to where I was getting the bus from. On the way back I had only been in my seat about two minutes before passenger assistant staff arrived and again service was very quick and they ensured I boarded first.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

On my return journey, I travelled early evening and the airport was extremely quiet, it was one of the best passenger assistance experiences I had. This was my first trip in a plane since shielding from covid, and given the short flight distance, it would be a good first one, and it certainly was. I do wish that the airport would check all their emergency cords to ensure they are accessible to disabled people if they fall and require help, as the one I saw was not fit for purpose. Great experience and would happily fly again to here and also highly recommend it.
