First Birthday Run Around

This review is especially helpful for those who have or use the following: Powerchair

Overview

Semi accessible dog park. Booked last minute for my dogs first birthday as our usual dog park was fully booked so I didn’t know how accessible it was with not having many photos on social media.

Transport & Parking

4

The car park is covered in gravel but is manageable to drive on and I didn’t get stuck getting back into my car like the other dog park I visited. The car park isn’t outlined so you can park anywhere in this area but you book the dog park for yourself or people you know so there should be enough space for you to get out of your car. This dog park is in the middle of the countryside so I don’t think there’s any public transport nearby. If you are using SatNav to get here, especially on an iPhone, take the right after the right it tells you to go if you’re coming from Dundee as our SatNav took us up a very bumpy farm road where there were houses.

Access

There is a long grassy area for dogs to run about on with platforms and tyres for the to run on or under but this area is up a embankment which a wheelchair user wouldn’t be able to get up. I couldn’t anyway, you can see if the picture below. Even if you could get on the grass it looked very uneven and would probably be very difficult to drive on. There is a gravelled pathway going along the side of the grass area which was manageable to drive on like in the car park but it was very bumpy and I felt like I was on a rollercoaster at times. I could of just sat in the one place but I wanted to walk along whilst my dog was exploring. To enter the dog park you have to open a big gate that you get a code for about an hour before your time to visit. I feel if a wheelchair user was visiting on their own they’d need help with this and there’s no staff on site. I was also a little disappointed there weren’t any water facilities for dogs, I took water and a bowl with me for my dog but other dog parks I’ve visited have had things like this. There was a shed open on the grassy area which my carer went to have a look at but they just had chairs and I think maybe hand sanitizer in it.

Toilets

There are no toilets available here.

Staff

0

There are no staff on site and I booked online so didn’t interact with anyone.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

With being an outdoor area I felt safe with Covid being around but I don’t think I’ll visit again as I don’t feel I was able to play with my dog or interact with him because he was more interested in the grassy area and I couldn’t get there.
