Overview
The only slight issue experienced was that on the day we visited, due to a private function, the main entrance was closed and the museum was accessed through large, heavy iron gates. There were plenty of people about to help however. Otherwise, wide, steady ramps to all parts of the museum.
Transport & Parking
Huge car park with many spaces including disabled parking. Museum is in the centre of town and is well served by the local buses.
Access
Steady ramps throughout. The only minor barrier to access was on some of the immaculately preserved railway passenger coaches. As expected the doors simply weren't designed to accommodate wheelchairs. Though if you can leave your wheelchair or can walk with assistance, there's a small steps into each of the coaches. Other than that the overall access means that anyone can get up close to all the exhibits - interaction seems encouraged with all sorts of railway paraphernalia for visitors to pick up and play with.
Toilets
There's just the one unisex toilet on the on a little station just a few dozen metres away from the museum building itself. It's large, with a wide, lightweight door; there's a small grab rail next to the toilet; there are easy-turn taps at the basin.
Staff
The staff are all volunteers and the attention to detail and TLC that's been put into the museum reflects an impressive level of devotion. The staff we saw were genuinely happy that we were visiting their museum!
Anything else you wish to tell us?
Might be worth ringing in advance to check if there are any private functions and to request that someone assist you with the gate if it's required.
