Overview

This hotel is on the outskirts of Thame near Oxfordshire. We had a three night stay in a fully accessible room. There was disabled parking near the entrance but these spaces were no larger than a normal space . It was ok if you didn’t have another car parked next to you but otherwise it wouldn’t have been easy to open the car doors wide enough for me . We did point this out to the hotel. Access was easy all on one level just push the button for the doors to open automatically. Once we had checked in the receptionist showed us where the lift was it was just big enough for a wheelchair and person. It took you down one floor.she meet us at the bottom and also explained where the slopes were if we didn’t want to use the lift. The room was a generous size plenty of room to get about the in the wheelchair. The bathroom was a wet room with plenty of grab rails, shower seat , higher rise toilet, the sink was a good height so I could stay in the wheelchair. The room also had red pull cords for emergency plus a visual alarm. Getting around the hotel was easy as the passage ways are all slopes. There is a nice conservatory with access to a patio and garden area which also has a slope there are plenty of tables and chairs in this area. The bar was also easily accessible as was the restaurant for both breakfast which was self service and dinner in the evening this was waitress service. My husband and I shared a pizza on our first night in the bar which had a good choice of meals for all tastes. The pizza was freshly made and we enjoyed it.breakfasts were good. We had dinner In the restaurant on the Thursday night . Quite a few items on the menu were not available that night. My husband had a salmon dish which he said was nice . Unfortunately my meal wasn’t I had steak pie with vegetables and mash. The mash was quite watery, and as for the steak pie it contained only three very small bits of beef just full of gravy . Certainly not made on the premises more like a very cheap one bought in a shop. It also came with a jug of gravy which was more like water than gravy. A very disappointing meal for me. We did tell the hotel who told us they would pass the information onto the kitchen . The only other thing I would say was that the majority of the staff didn’t know what they were doing, they certainly needed more training. We also pointed this out to the hotel who said this would be past onto the management. Apart of the staff problems and my meal the stay was good. We would stay here again given access in the hotel and room was unsuitable.

Car parking isn’t great spaces are just the normal size ,no extra room for opening doors etc but they are near the hotel entrance.

Access

Access Into the hotel was good and getting around inside was good as well. We did use the lift which was just big enough to get the wheelchair and my husband in. There were slopes in the hotel and out into the garden and patio area.

Toilets

I only used the toilet that was in our bedroom which had grab rails and was a raised toilet.

Staff

0.5

On the whole the staff had no idea what was going on. They would wander about with hot meal orders asking if this was your order. On the Thursday I ordered a cream tea which came with a pot of tea , but when they brought the scones we asked where the tea was and were told it didn’t come with a pot of tea whereas the menu said it did my husband had to go and sort out what was going on. He ordered a sandwich for his lunch which came with salad and crisps . I was going to have some of the crisps and salad in exchange for one of my two scones. But just as well he tried it all first as it turns out the crisps and salad would have caused me a problem due to my allergies .the hotel staff didn’t ask about this. Overall the staff need a lot more training. We did tell the hotel about these problems

Anything else you wish to tell us?

There was hand sanitizer at reception and restaurant entrance the room was only cleaned upon request during your stay .
