Overview
Our general impression of this hotel that on arrival we had a feeling of excitement, as it looked presentable and inviting, well kept, and clean driveway, (photo 1). lots of parking, although only a few disabled bays, very close to hotel entrance. Our first problem was how to get up a step to be able to get into foyer, (photo 2) then we were very limited in our movement around the hotel due to the many steps everywhere. Although we really enjoyed our stay here, we feel we cannot recommend this hotel for disabled people, unless you are able to get up from a wheelchair, and be able to manage a few steps and short walks. Help was available by willing staff, but perhaps reading the rest of our review may guide you a lot more as to your thoughts of visiting this hotel. Now to other facilities and rooms. Having overcome the problems you can read about on getting to our room, we can say that entering the second foyer (photo 11) for our bedroom, we found it to be spacious and comfortable, (photo 12) room number 409, but it was not a smoke free room, the bed was very comfortable and we could leave our wheelchair by door for the room (photo 13). We did not regard this as a disabled room. The bathroom was not wheelchair friendly, passable if you can get up out of wheelchair, but we were pleased to have a walk in shower, but with a basic wash room, normal height for wash basin and shelves. The restaurant proved to be interesting of how we could make use of it, steps again (photo 16) but it looked very nice, then we saw the lift notice that a member of staff would help us use the lift itself, (photo 17). The restaurant is well laid out, inviting and comfortable (photo 18) The evening meal was very good, filling and well presented, with a good reasonable selection, and attentive staff. The breakfast bar (photo 19) provided a very good selection of buffet style food, with a very nice cooked breakfast, (photo 20) so very satisfied with the overall meals provided. Our final thoughts for you is that we personally enjoyed this hotel, we gave it a 4 star rating, despite the problem of it not being wheelchair friendly, and if you, like myself can cope with the few problems of steps and short walking, then give it a go, it’s a nice hotel, clean, well looked after, and friendly staff to help you.
Transport & Parking
There are a few disabled bays right next to hotel entrance, but there is a step to get up into hotel, and a blue plague on the wall exit to a bell, (photo 2) asking you to ring reception for help, but don’t hold your breath, and we presumed there would be a ramp provided, but did not see one. A big let down for us was regarding parking and getting into a hotel entrance for our disabled room, and to enter the restaurant. After booking in at reception (photo 3) we then had to exit hotel again, down a step, of which I had to get up from my wheelchair, and allow wife to take it down the step, then we had to get back into car, and drive around to the far end of the hotel to another parking area, with 3 disabled bays available, (photo 8) then be pushed along a pathway to enter hotel (photo 9) by another door with steep ramp to navigate, which then leads you to disabled room and restaurant. However, if it had been raining we would have been particularly annoyed at having to exit by main hotel foyer, and walk round in the wet to the other section of hotel to arrive at our room. The only other way to get to restaurant and our room was up steps by reception desk, then down steps again at the other end. Do not be put off at this point if you, like myself, can get up off your wheelchair or scooter, as it is a rather nice hotel to visit or stay at, and we really enjoyed our stay here.
Access
Once you are up the front step, it is then nice and flat (photo 3) as you enter reception area, which had a homely feel to it, which then leads to the comfortable bar area and seating, (photos 4 and 5) and here the staff were very friendly and willing, as an example in taking your order. It was then easy to get out onto the terrace garden (photo 6) and quite a few comfortable chairs are available (photo 7) on the really hot sun trap terrace, which invites you to enjoy a bar meal or a drink. The standard of both hot and cold drinks need improvement, the temperature of coffee could be improved, and cold drinks not as good as should be. Now the problem of getting down that entrance step again so as to get around to your disabled room. We did not see any lifts, or even told if any where available for us, so assumed it was steps only hotel.
Toilets
We could not find the disabled public toilet, so waited till we were in our room, it may have been along one of the corridors, with steps to navigate, as steps seem to be the norm here.
Staff
We received a warm welcome, considering we were early and room not yet available for us, so enjoyed the bar facilities, and then staff friendly enough, and offered advice on how to use hotel facilities.
