Overview
Planning a holiday can be an extremely exciting yet stressful experience, especially if you need to consider a location, which is disability friendly. It is clear that Disney's Animal Kingdom, known as Walt Disney World Resort's zoological theme park works hard to ensure that its facilities, shows and attractions can be enjoyed by all. Every Disney bus is fully equipped with ramps and an electric chair lift in order to accommodate wheelchairs owned or rented by the guests and there is also disabled parking provided for guest who choose to drive. Upon arrival, along with their detailed maps, Disney's Animal Kingdom offers a 'Guide for Guests with Disabilities,' which clearly states how the park and its staff are able to provide services for guests with mobility, visual and hearing disabilities and has wheelchair access throughout. This particular park focuses on their safari park life and shows, which are all accessible for guests with disabilities, so you can avoid the worry of guests missing out on main attractions. The disney characters and actors within the park also ensure that every guest felt included during shows and meet and greets. It was amazing to see that every guest at the park was able to enjoy their own magical experience.
Transport & Parking
Disney's Animal Kingdom is recognised world-wide, therefore becomes extremely busy during peak holiday times. Although Disney's Animal Kingdom provides disabled parking spaces for guests who choose to drive, I would recommend using the resort's bus transportation. Every bus included is adapted to fully accommodate wheelchair users and prioritises guests, which require these services to the front of the queue. Unfortunately this is only available for a limited amount of spaces per journey. Every driver I had met was extremely friendly and patient and no task was too much trouble. As well as visual indication, the driver would announce every stop for each hotel and theme park, which would be beneficial for guests with visual and hearing disabilities. All stops were opposite the main entrances.
Access
Every area of the park was clearly marked and also provided assistive listening for guests with visual disabilities. However I did notice that the floor throughout the park was uneven, which therefore increased the risk of guests losing balance and control of wheelchairs. Although there is plenty of seating areas for guests to rest and relax, there are no areas to sit, whilst guests wait in line for shows and rides. I feel this should be considered, as it's usually hot and during peak times queues can be over an hour long. There are plenty of disabled access toilets throughout the park.
Toilets
The accessible toilets were easy to locate and clearly marked.
Staff
Every member of staff were delightful during my stay, as they appeared approachable and were happy to answer any questions you may have. It was extremely enjoyable to watch actors and characters perform and involve the audience.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
I would definitely recommend this resort to others and plan to visit again soon!
