Overview

Only visited the café which is joint on to the museum about the RRS Discovery ship and centers around Captain Scott's voyage to the Antarctic. You can climb aboard this marvellous ship that was built in Dundee in 1901 and returned in 1986. It has been permanently situated where it stands today since 1993.

Transport & Parking

Council car park right beside Discovery Point, 3 disabled spaces and if you have a blue badge there's no charge to park here. Only downfall there was is that there isn't a safe walkway to get on to the pavement so small risk with cars driving in car park. Right across the road is the train station so no distance at all to get to here if you were traveling by train. Actually the reason I went here because was meeting Ryan MacDonald from Euan's Guide and he traveled by train. Also right in the city centre so bus stops and taxi ranks nearby.

Access

In regard to the café it is all level access and entrance into Discovery Point is level entrance with pad operated automatic doors which open inside so no issue with door hitting your chair if your too close. Café was spacious inside and seating areas were easily accessible with tables at reasonable height for wheelchairs. I haven't been to the museum since I was a child but within the main museum I don't remember there being an issue with me getting anywhere. Of course the ship itself was built in 1901 so when I was last on it I can't remember if I managed to get my chair aboard, but if I could I didn't get very far and definitely couldn't get below deck.

Toilets

Disabiled toilet was right at entrance of museum. I didn't use it myself and lots half a star because it's not a changing place toilet.

Staff

Didn't interact with staff myself but whilst observing all staff seemed very friendly and helpful.

Anything else you wish to tell us?

Great place for meetings if who you are meeting is traveling by train from another city. Great that you are able to visit café without actually visiting museum and I didn't have any food but when I looked at the menu it sounded delicious. Also beautiful views overlooking the Tay Bridge.
