Roller Derby in Dundee

4.5

Visit date:

Overview

There are not many venues in Scotland that provide space for the sport of Roller Derby - but the DISC in Dundee is one of them. There is a lot more going on at the DISC - but for this review I only had time to focus on the main hall. This is where the roller derby takes place.

Transport & Parking

5

There are 3 disabled parking bays with a wide ramp to access the front entrance of the DISC. I'm not sure what public transport access is like - my friends who took the bus had a bit of an uphill walk, but there may be other options.

Access

5

There are wide long ramps for everyone to get into front of the building. There is an automatic door to get in. Vending machines in the foyer if you need a snack. It is a long straight hallway towards the main hall where the roller derby takes place - it looks like a lot of sports take place here! The accessible loo is off the same hallway. It is step free to the main hallway. For the roller derby, the spectators sit at the edge of the track. I'd recommend to sit back a couple of rows as some of the skaters who took a fall came quite close to the onlookers! There seems to be a viewing platform over the area from the first floor - I've not been up there but I've been told by friends they are pretty sure there is no lift access, and you get up there by pretty steep stairs.

Toilets

4

There is an accessible loo which also had a shower cubicle in it too. Red Cord was present. Missing a star because the toilet wasn't very clean.. I don't recommend zooming into the photos I've added. I didn't have enough time to inform the staff. The non-disabled loos were quite clean so hopefully they are usually kept to a cleaner standard and this was a mishap by a visitor. There is also a shower with seating area within it in the accessible toilet - see my photos to assess if they will be useful for you.

Staff

I didn't meet any staff. I'll update my review next time if I meet any.
