Debenhams Davygate York
Visit date:
Overview
Debenhams Davygate York has 4 floors and is situated in the centre of York. The doors were not automatic therefore there is difficulty opening them yourself if you are in a wheelchair. Inside of the store, access to some clothes and items is very difficult. For example clothes that are hung really high are not ideal and also clothes fixtures that are really close together means wheelchair users cant fit through some places. However staff are always on hand to help
Transport & Parking
The shop is easily accessible by bus with bus stops spread around the city centre. Taxis can also drive all the way up to the outside of the shop if needed. The pavement and road surface around the shop and in York city centre isn't very wheelchair user friendly, due to uneven pavements and cobbles.
Access
A lift was available in the building as there are four floors. The button for the lift was approx. 40 inches off the floor, allowing wheelchair users to use it. The fitting rooms in the basement, the ground floor and 1st floor were standard with a entrance width of 29 inches, whereas on 2nd floor there was a specially adapted fitting room with a door width of 38 inches wide. The fitting room had a lot of space, along with a grab rail and a seat. It also had an emergency cord.
Toilets
There were no toilets available at this venue.
Staff
Staff were happy to help with a disabled wheelchair user. Helped reach the items that were out of reach.
Anything else you wish to tell us?
There was a portable induction loop available if needed.
