Overview

I visited after reading a review on another site which assured me that the whole loop around the water's edge was easily accessible to wheelchair users. Unfortunately, this was not my experience as a self-propelled active chair user. The path up to the café and lavatories from the car park is tarmacked, and gently sloped. Most wheelchair users will be able to progress this far without problems. However, beyond this point the path across the dam is rough, gravelly, and has a very noticeable camber. I have good upper body strength and reasonable fitness, but I really struggled over this surface. I could not make it more than halfway across the dam before I gave up and turned back. I cannot comment personally about the rest of the paths, but the little I saw of the path that loops back through the trees was certainly not wheelchair friendly in the sense of being accessible to those in manual chairs. If, however, you have an all-terrain powerchair/scooter, you will probably be able to get around the whole circuit without too many problems; particularly in drier weather. Those with someone to push them in a manual chair will probably at least be able to get across the dam portion, but the terrain (if the report of my husband is correct) becomes more challenging from that point on.

Transport & Parking

I drove to the park. There are three, tarmacked disabled bays before the main car park which allow free parking for Blue Badge holders. (The rest of the car-park is pay and display at the rate of £2.20 for the day.) These bays are under the trees and - due to their damp, shaded location - tend to be rather muddy.

Toilets

There are two disabled lavatories available by the café. The website mentions that they are open from 9am to 5pm, but I do not know if they are accessible with a Radar key outside of these times. I have heard that their lavatories include an adult changing facility, but I didn't go into them and cannot be sure of the facilities.
